🌅 Intro — Morning in Booral

Morning in Booral arrives gently. Before you even step outside, the bush settles around you with its cool air and the quiet rustling of wings waking in the trees. The beaches aren’t far, but here the day begins with the soft sounds of birds stretching into the morning and the steady calm of a bush‑farm sunrise. It’s a peaceful start, the kind that makes you breathe a little slower and take in the simple beauty of the property.

🌿  Natural & True to the Moment

The cockatoos gather as the day begins. The photo’s a bit rough around the edges, but that’s how it really looked: quiet, simple, and alive. Sometimes the best moments aren’t polished — they’re just real.

Above is the Pond Still water, lily pads drifting, reflections of the trees — it’s a natural pause point. A place where everything feels softer.

Juno pausing on the bush trail, listening to the sounds around her. The paddock edges, the trees, the soft rustle of leaves — this is Booral at its most honest.

Below Pycnoporus coccineus, also known as Orange Bracket Fungus — a native Australian species that grows on dead wood in bushland.

Little moments like this are easy to miss, but they’re part of what makes Booral feel so alive and grounded.

🌾 The Morning Bird Chorus

The yard comes alive early. More than 20 cockatoos sweep in first, loud and cheeky, filling the trees with their calls. Four or more pink galahs drift down next, softer and calmer, adding gentle colour to the morning. Six ducks wander through with slow, thoughtful steps. Mixed little birds weave between them, darting in and out like tiny flashes of movement.

Then come the familiar locals: Five magpies, confident and curious, strutting right up as if they own the place. Four butcherbirds, perched nearby, offering those beautiful clear morning calls that float across the paddocks.

It’s a full chorus — lively but peaceful, busy but calming. The bush feels awake, and you feel part of it.

Above A pair of Australian Wood Ducks wandering across the lawn — calm, gentle visitors who seem to enjoy the quiet of Booral as much as we do.

Above are Galahs  are one of the most iconic birds in Australia — social, cheeky, and always chatting to each other. They love fence lines because it gives them a good lookout point and a place to gather in small groups. Their soft pink and grey coloring stands out beautifully against the green grass and timber, and they bring a gentle, playful energy to the property.

They’re calmer than cockatoos, more curious, and often move in pairs or little clusters. Seeing them perched along the fence like this is a perfect snapshot of everyday life in Booral — wildlife just settling in as part of the rhythm of the place.

Above This is the first thing you see when you step outside — open space, a few scattered trees, and the bush waiting behind them. It feels calm and grounded.

Above Is classic example of bush‑farm boundary fencing — the kind you find all through rural Queensland. The old metal post and barbed wire blend into the natural bush, showing how human boundaries and wild landscapes sit side‑by‑side.

Above is a an old Log covered in Moss.

In this particular photo, the log is covered in moss, not fungus. Moss is a small, non‑flowering plant that grows in moist, shaded areas. It’s soft, green, and velvety — exactly like what’s on the log here.

Above is Juno

🐾 A Little About Her Name

Her name suits her — Juno, the Roman goddess of home and protection, known for watching over families and daily life. It’s a name tied to youth, strength, and bright spirit, and she carries all of that in her own way. Curious, playful, and always keeping an eye on the paddocks, she brings a lively, gentle energy to the property every day.

🐕 About Juno’s Breed

Juno is a young Kelpie — lean, bright, and full of that quick, alert energy the breed is known for. Kelpies are working dogs at heart, bred for intelligence, awareness, and endless curiosity, and she carries all of that in her own gentle way. Her upright ears catch every sound in the bush, her sharp eyes miss nothing, and her light, athletic frame is built for exploring paddocks, fence lines, and quiet tracks. She’s clever, loyal, and always ready to move, but she also settles beautifully, bringing a calm, steady presence to the house when the day slows down. She’s the perfect mix of spirit and softness.

🐾 Booral Sit — Juno & Avo, the Heart of the Home.

Inside the house, the energy shifts from the calm of the bush to the lively, joyful presence of Juno — the young Kelpie girl who seems to carry sunshine in her paws. At just 7 months old, she’s full of energy, curiosity, and that classic Kelpie spark that makes every moment feel playful.

Juno starts her day with enthusiasm. Breakfast is one of her favorite moments — tail wagging, eyes bright, waiting with that eager little bounce she does when she knows food is coming. Dinner brings the same excitement, as if each meal is a celebration just for her.

Her toys are scattered like happy memories across the house. She’ll pick one up, drop it, at the door so it was there when she came back in to the main house. There’s a joy in her movements, a lightness, like she’s always ready for the next adventure.

Out in the yard, she becomes the explorer of Booral. She wanders with purpose, nose to the air, checking what’s new, what’s moving, and what might be worth a chase. Kangaroos, birds, cattle — all part of her morning patrol. Sometimes they chase her back or stand her off, but it’s all harmless fun. Her tail keeps wagging, and the moment ends with a little laugh because it’s just Juno being Juno.

Then there’s Avo — the gentle cockatiel whose presence fills the house in a completely different way. He’s more friendly with men, so Grant gets the special treatment: soft whistles, curious looks, and that warm little bond birds form when they choose someone. His songs drift through the main living area, bright and cheerful, giving the home a musical heartbeat.

The first time i heard him, his whistle sounded so clear and human that it felt like someone else was in the house. He’s had a good teacher — his notes are confident, bright, and full of personality. His melodies weave through the rooms, mixing with the quiet bush sounds outside, creating a peaceful rhythm that becomes part of the daily routine.

What does Avo as a Name Mean?

A lot of people use Avo as a cute, friendly nickname. It has a soft, round sound to it — easy to call out, easy for a bird to recognize.

And honestly… it suits a cockatiel with personality.

🌿 Conclusion

Booral is the kind of place that stays with you. The quiet mornings, the chorus of birds, Juno’s bright puppy energy, and Avo’s soft songs all blend into a rhythm that feels steady and grounding. It’s a simple sit, but a meaningful one — full of small moments that remind you how peaceful life can be when you slow down and let the bush set the pace.

And like every house sit, we leave with memories that stay with us long after we’ve gone — little moments, gentle routines, and the feeling of being part of someone’s world for a short, special time.

Where to now? As we say goodbye to Booral, we carry its gentle rhythm with us — the birds, the paddocks, Juno’s joy, and Avo’s songs. Our next sit is already on the horizon, another home to care for and another chapter to write. Each place adds to our story, and Booral has been a beautiful part of it.
