🌍 Chapter One — The First Twenty Sits
Our journey didn’t begin with a grand plan or a map covered in pins. It began quietly, almost gently, with a simple decision to try something new — to travel, to care for animals, and to see where the road would take us. We didn’t know then how many homes we would step into, how many pets we would meet, or how many people would trust us with the hearts of their households. But looking back now, across our first twenty sits, it feels like the beginning of something bigger than we ever expected.
Delveen — Sit 1
Our first sit was tucked away in Delveen, a peaceful place where the days moved slowly. We cared for one dog, two goats, and four chooks. Lea came with us, trotting happily along the quiet roads and paddocks. It was simple, calm, and honest — the kind of start that lets you breathe and settle into a new way of living. We didn’t know it then, but Delveen set the tone for everything that followed.
Forest Hills — Sit 2
Forest Hills was louder, busier, full of life. Three horses, a steer, and two dogs kept us moving from morning to night. We learned new routines, new rhythms, and new ways of caring for animals who relied on us. It was work, but it was good work — the kind that leaves you tired in the best way. Forest Hills taught us that every sit would be different, and every home would ask something new of us.
Sit 3 — Mum’s Home
Then came a familiar place. Cane fields, quiet mornings, and the comfort of being close to family. It wasn’t just a sit — it was a pause, a breath, a reminder of where we came from before the road carried us further.
Sits 4 to 11 — The Early Road
These sits blended into a gentle stretch of travel. More dogs, more cats, more chooks. More homeowners who welcomed us in with trust and kindness. Each place added a new memory — a funny moment, a quiet morning, a pet who made us smile. We were learning, growing, and slowly realising that this wasn’t just something we were doing… it was becoming who we were.
Beecher — Sit 12
Beecher was a turning point. A lively property full of animals: three Maremmas, little Kuri, Rupert the pig, Nikky the horse, chooks, guinea fowl, and their tiny keets. Cargo, Roma, and Sarge — each with their own role, their own personality. Kuri followed us everywhere. Rupert made us laugh with his excited pig sounds. Nikky kept us on our toes with her clever tricks. Beecher was busy, warm, and full of heart. It felt like a small world all on its own.
Tannum Sands — Sit 13 (Part Two)
Returning to Louie felt like coming back to a friend. He remembered us instantly — the ute rides, the playtime, the quiet mornings. He slipped back into his routine with Grant as if no time had passed. There was something special about that bond, something simple and strong. Tannum Sands reminded us that pets remember kindness, and they welcome it back without hesitation.
Boyne Island — Sit 14
A young male poodle greeted us next — unsure at first, watching us carefully, trying to decide if we were safe. But once he trusted us, he opened up completely. He loved the jetty, the fishing, the crab pots. And when we caught something, he would sprint up the yard doing zoomies, full of joy. He was still learning, still growing, but he had a good heart and a bright future.
Cooloola Cove — Sit 15
Zues was a big boy with a big heart. Playful, loving, proud after his morning brush and doggie spray. He loved his food and made sure we knew when it was time. The open yard was full of visiting birds, adding a peaceful soundtrack to every day. Cooloola Cove was gentle, warm, and full of simple routines that made the days feel easy.
Sit 16
Another quiet stop along the road — another pet, another home, another set of memories that folded into the journey.
Dundowen Beach — Sit 17 (Return Visit)
Bonny, FiFi, and Coco greeted us like old friends. Their excitement was overflowing, tails wagging, eyes bright. Returning to Dundowen Beach felt like stepping back into a place that remembered us, and welcomed us home.
River Heads — Sit 18
Two Hungarian Vizslas — Zoe and Nickle. Zoe was the boss, confident and independent. Nickle was the cuddler, always by your side. They loved their food, their treats, their coats on cold mornings, and rides on the back of the ute to the beach and the shop. They were well‑behaved, loving, and full of personality. River Heads was a calm, beautiful sit.
Sarina Range — Sit 19
A country home with views that stretched across the ranges. Orchards, plants, cattle, fluffy‑arse chooks, and Tommy Tigger — the smoochy cat who loved the heated lounge room on cold mornings. He curled up on your lap, warm and content. We even spotted platypus in the creek. Sarina Range was peaceful, scenic, and unforgettable.
Bundaberg — Sit 20
Three cats — Milo, James, and Rose. James had his favourite toys. Rose watched before joining in. Milo relaxed on top of the cat tower, keeping an eye on everything. They loved sitting at the front door watching the world. Rose reminded us when it was mealtime, and Milo always came out right on time for his medication. Bundaberg was calm, gentle, and full of quiet moments.
🌅 The End of the First Chapter
Twenty sits. Twenty homes. Dozens of pets. Countless memories.
Every homeowner trusted us. Every pet welcomed us. Every place added something to our journey.
These first twenty sits weren’t just jobs — they were the foundation of the life we’re building. Without every single homeowner, every pet, every moment, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
And now, the road continues.
We’re currently sitting in Booral, which will be shared in a later blog. From here, we begin weekly posts, sharing each sit as it happens.
Next comes two months in Brisbane, at two different homes. Then we travel down to Taree, NSW.
This is the end of the first chapter. The next one begins now
